SCPC Open (Last Update 29/06/2010)
This year's Open Triples competition took place at Lord's Hill Outdoor Recreation Ground on Sunday 27th June, starting at 10.00a.m. In spite of the potential (but, in the event, not actual) competition in excitement terms with England's last-16 World Cup match with Germany, 14 teams, 6 of which were wholly or partly composed of SCPC members, turned up and seemed to have a good day on the hottest day of the year so far. We played 4 leagues (with byes in two of them) in the morning, then an 8-team Main knockout and a 4-team Plate for first round losers, with the remaining 6 teams playing a pre-drawn 3-round snake.
Last year's winners, "Outrage" (Mike Tull, Matt Slater, and Ashley Odell who replaced Harrison Ash from last year) eventually retained their title by beating "Saganowkski" (Tomasz Rypien providing the Polish theme for Graham and a very welcome returning visitor, Wayne Webster) in a high quality final. Southampton City 2 (Peter & Wayne T with Tony from Limes) lost in their semi-final to "Saganowski". Bernie's team, "KGB", with Kim and Graham Elcome, won the Plate, beating Poole Pirates in the final. In the Consolage, the Cobbetts team of Dave Stubbs, Steve Lombard and Richard Greeve were the better on points of two teams who won all three of their games, with "Karpowdav" (Karen Lombard with David and Richard P) being runners-up.
